Jane Butcher
As a leader and volunteer in many local and national organizations, donor to countless causes, and mother of seven, Jane Butcher has touched and helped improve innumerable lives. Jane Butcher was born in New York City . She first came to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, majoring in International Affairs. Jane's first post-college job was indicative of her passion for giving back to the community. She then moved back to the East Coast where she was a social worker, actively seeking housing for minority families in Boston.
What eventually brought Jane and her husband back to Colorado was their shared belief in public education. Jane and Charles wanted their children to be educated in the Boulder public school system. Jane threw herself wholeheartedly into giving back to the community and to her alma mater.
Jane's volunteer work to benefit CU can be traced back to her undergraduate days when she worked on the Conference on World Affairs and met her beloved late husband, Charlie. Her 47-year commitment to the Conference is a testament to her loyalty and passion for the University. Jane is currently co-chair of the Conference and oversees much of the planning each year. She goes to great lengths to insure that CU students have a significant voice and hand in the planning.
Beyond her involvement in these events and initiatives, Jane is chair of the Dean's Advisory Council of the College of Arts and Sciences. She co-chaired the Cottage #1 Renovation Steering Committee, and has actively supported the Women's Incentive Scholarship Program and the Women's Studies Program.
Jane was a founder and serves on the board of trustees for the Women of the West museum. She served as president of the Association of Boulder Valley parents and she volunteers as a mediator in Boulder 's community mediation service. She has served on the Board of the Colorado Music Festival, including one year as president, and served on the Colorado Chautauqua Association board. In 1999, she was named co-recipient of the Daily Camera's pacesetter award for community service. In 2005, she received the Alumni Recognition Award from the CU Alumni Association. In the spirit of honoring other women, Jane founded and is involved with Spunky Women of Boulder, an organization that recognizes women who have contributed to the Boulder community.
